The historic Cleveland Playhouse Square District has more than just elegant theaters. Hanging 44 feet above the intersection of Euclid Avenue and East 14th Street is the world’s largest outdoor chandelier. Officially unveiled on May 2, 2014, the stainless steel chandelier measures 20 feet tall and holds 4,200 acrylic crystals.
The iconic chandelier took almost a year to make in partnership with General Electric and Canadian lighting manufacturer Lind. Automatic timers allow the chandelier to come on one hour after sunset and stay on until one hour after sunrise. The annual electric bill? A very modest $1,000.
