When I attended a nonprofit day in Erie, Pennsylvania, I discovered two organizations that we in Ohio can learn from.
The Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI) is a nonprofit organization that reduces barriers to the success of initiators. The opportunities WEDI provides in the areas of education, language and networking is causing a real transformation. People who could not speak English when they started out are not only being understood, they’re creating jobs.
I was also impressed with the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority. In my mind, we need jobs as well as education in Ohio. Maybe jobs even more.
