The report is in for 2019, and health care companies are taking over as the state’s top employers. For the first time, Cleveland Clinic has replaced Walmart as Ohio’s largest employer with 50,825 employees.
Joining the top 100 employers with at least 3,000 employees are Honeywell, Lake Hospital System, RELX/Lexisnexis, ArcelorMittal, Emerson Electric and UnitedHealth.
Health care has become a dominant industry, in part, because organizations have grown larger through an active merger and acquisition mindset. However, the largest employer spot has remained relatively stable.
