Ohio is blessed with a safe water supply. But recently, I have been concerned about the tap water at our summer cottage.
To test water quality, you can purchase a water test kit with strips for testing bacteria, lead and other minerals. Some kits are free. Next, fill a glass with room temperature water and dip each strip into the water for five seconds.
Often, county health departments will help you test for bacteria or nitrates. Or, you can have water tested by a state certified laboratory. Call the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or visit the Environmental Protection Agency’s website.
