Local dignitaries, music, food trucks and commemorative gifts will be on hand for the Columbus Crew groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 10. The Crew’s new stadium is expected to be completed in 2021 as part of the downtown Arena District.
The new soccer venue will include 20,000 seats, team store and outdoor plaza for social gathering. The old stadium site will be redeveloped as a community sports park and new state-of-the-art facility for the team. Columbus Crew competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference and began play in 1996 as one of the 10 charter clubs.
