The Cincinnati Reds are celebrating the 150th anniversary of baseball’s first professional team with a host of events, activities and promotions, so be sure to check out the entire season’s schedule.
The 1869 Red Stockings were the first openly all-salaried professional team in baseball history, transforming baseball from a social-club pastime to a professional game. The team began its season on May 4 with a 45-9 victory over the Great Westerns of Cincinnati.
Promotions include a commemorative bobblehead series, throwback uniforms and a new series of benches placed around the city featuring the team’s mascot, Mr. Redlegs.
