Ohio attracted a record 222 million visitors to our state in 2018, up 1.4 percent from the year before. The figures were released as part of Ohio Tourism Day earlier this month. Direct visitor spending in 2018 increased to an estimated $36 billion, up $1 billion from 2017.
Other interesting highlights: 44 million visits were overnight trips, up 2.3 percent from 2017. Research shows that overnight visitors spend on average over three times the amount spent by day visitors.
The study was conducted on behalf of TourismOhio, which uses the data to monitor trends and track industry performance.
