Given Dave Grohl’s resume as Foo Fighters’ frontman and Nirvana’s former drummer, many assume he’s from Seattle – but he was born in Warren.
Despite Grohl’s short Ohio residency (his family moved to Virginia when he was three), a local policeman deemed him an inspiration for Warren’s youth and led a revitalization project in his name. Trash was soon cleared from a rundown walkway, local artists covered the brick walls with murals, and David Grohl Alley opened to the public in August 2009 – with its namesake in attendance.
Fans continue to make the Warren pilgrimage, many leaving their own artwork behind.
