Cyber ranges are gaining traction in Ohio. But instead of facilitating shooting practice, these ranges are designed to teach students about cyberattacks and how to prevent them.
Many states now have cyber ranges and the ones in our state are funded in part by the Ohio Cyber Collaboration Committee. Students learn about phishing, worms (self-replicating viruses) and other cyber-related issues.
The University of Cincinnati and the University of Akron are in the initial stages of setting up cyber ranges and will also launch undergraduate cybersecurity degree tracks. The shortage of cybersecurity professionals is close to 3 million globally.
