Every diehard Ohioan knows that our state bird is the cardinal and our state tree is the buckeye. But did you know that our state beverage is tomato juice or that the state reptile is the black racer snake? Neither did our staff at The Ohio 100 until we saw the Ohio state symbols site.
Since the early 19th century, Ohio’s lawmakers have identified several symbols to represent our state. Whether a song, animal, plant or beverage, the chosen symbols in the link above represent Ohioans in the Buckeye State. The symbols are listed in the order of their adoption.
