Cleveland and Columbus ranked as the third- and fourth-largest regions in the Midwest for health care investments in 2018, according to BioEnterprise’s latest report. Nearly $294 million was invested in Cleveland-based health care companies, while $163 million was invested in Columbus firms.

The report tracks capital investments made in medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and health IT sectors. The Minneapolis region led the Midwest, followed by Chicago. The Detroit-Ann Arbor region rounded out the top five.

Over the last decade, investment in Ohio’s biomedical industry has nearly tripled, rising from $189.1 million in 2008 according to BioEnterprise.
