Revel in the serenity and solitude of Ohio’s Hill Country at Nelsonville’s Wayne National Forest – the only national forest in Ohio – where you can hike, mountain bike or horseback ride. The forest is a patchwork of land that covers more than a quarter million acres of Appalachian foothills in southeast Ohio.
The forest features more than 300 miles of trails, which are open until the beginning of December. The trails feature the Vesuvius Furnace – a partially restored iron furnace built in 1833. Climb the Shawnee and Snake Ridge lookout towers, and walk across the Irish Run Natural Bridge.
