Soap Box Derby still running strong

Soap Box Derby

My brother and I grew up in Akron, so our dad always took us to the All-American Soap Box Derby. During its heyday, as many as 70,000 people gathered to cheer on young racers, who came from across the country and the world.

The 82nd version of this iconic event will take place from July 14-20, and the event is billed as “989 feet of gravity-powered fun and excitement.” Both boys and girls compete in various age classes for the right to become Derby champions.

The Derby now also offers a STEM-based education program.
