A suburban Cleveland bakery is already advertising paczki. That’s pronounced “poonch-key” for those of non-Polish descent. The funny thing is Michael Angelo’s is owned by two Italian-American brothers, but they make the best paczki around. There will be a line out the door when Lent gets closer.
It’s a Polish tradition to eat paczki on Fat Tuesday, which isn’t until early March this year. The tradition has spread because packzi are so addictive. What could be better than fried dough filled with fruit jelly or custard and dusted with powdered sugar? Make this Lent one to remember.
