During the 18th and 19th centuries, thousands of slaves crossed the Ohio River to Cincinnati, making their way to freedom. That period in time is brought to life at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, open to the public every day.
The center in downtown Cincinnati is just a few steps from the banks of the Ohio River, which slaves crossed to freedom. Visitors will get a historical look at slavery in America and a lesson in slavery in the 21st century. Upward of 27 million people are currently enslaved around the world, according to the center.
