Kid bikers to get 9,000 helmets

May is Bike Helmet Safety Awareness Month in Ohio, and the state is doing its part to keep our kids safe. Nearly 9,000 bicycle helmets will be going to kids this spring thanks to the Put a Lid on It! campaign, a partnership between ODOT and the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Thanks to a $12,000 grant from Honda of America Marysville, the helmets are free for kids across Ohio and will be given based on need. Twelve percent of bike-related fatalities in the last five years were children between ages 5 and 14.
