I’m not old enough to have voted for Dwight Eisenhower, but his campaign slogan, “I Like Ike,” was memorable. After being elected president, one of his infrastructure programs was expanding our interstate highway system.
The story goes that during World War II, Eisenhower was impressed with the autobahn in Germany. He brought that idea back with him and implemented it as a means of moving a large number of people in case of an emergency.
As we continue our journey of The Ohio 100, let’s remember what connects us: the interstate highways, especially I-71 connecting Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.
