Flu season is just around the corner, but before you head in to get your shot, check out what’s new this year.
First, the vaccines have been updated to match the exact viruses expected to be present in the United States. Second, only quadrivalent vaccines will be offered this year, meaning all shots will protect against four strains of the virus, instead of three with a trivalent vaccine.
Finally, the CDC and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommend receiving the shot by the end of October – getting it too soon may lead to less protection later in the season.
